Bahraini media reported that 48 members of two gangs, including 39 women, were arrested for prostitution.

Ministry of Interior's Department of Anti-Human Trafficking and Protection of Public Morals announced on Saturday that 9 Asians had been arrested.

The two gangs were found to be in possession of a large amount of alcoholic drinks.

Bahrain's government has taken down a number of sex trafficking gangs in recent years. According to the law, convicted individuals could face up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to BD10,000, in addition to paying the cost of repatriating victims.

In Bahrain, forced prostitution is punishable by imprisonment between 2 and 7 years under article 325 of the Penal Code. Three to ten years of imprisonment may be slapped on the victim if he or she is a minor.
