Over 7,782 Covid-19 tests were conducted yesterday (20 June) health officials confirmed. The Ministry of Health detected 415 new cases of the COVID-19 in foreign workers, contacts and some from recent arrivals to the island kingdom, according to health officials.

Health officials said that 225 expatriate workers were detected with the virus in the past 24 hours, 179 others were infected from local contacts while 11 cases were detected in recent arrivals from abroad.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed that 503 patients recovered from coronavirus bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 15,790 so far.

The latest update (20 June) reveals that there are currently 181 Covid-19 cases receiving treatment, of which 33 are in a critical condition. Over 5,448 cases are stable out of a total of 5,481 active cases. The total number of discharged recovered cases totals to 15,790. Bahrain has conducted over 4,70,409 tests. 

The Ministry of Health announced the death of a 55-year-old male expatriate from COVID-19, and expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased. This brings the total number of fatalities from Covid-19 to 60 in Bahrain. 

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus congratulated HRH Premier on Bahraini Doctor’s Day designated on the first Wednesday in the month of November.

Dr Ghebreyesus welcomed the step which, he said, reflects honour and recognition of the health professionals and their strenuous efforts to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and herald a better future for humanity.
