
“A total of 4735 mask-related violations in public places were registered since the decision was implemented,” stated Public Security Assistant Chief for Operations and Training Affairs, Brigadier-General Dr. Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, to the media.
He confirmed the continuation of the implementation of the instructions of the General Security Presidency, regarding taking legal measures against violators which, he added, aimed at strengthening the commitment to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Brigadier-General Dr. Shaikh Hamad explained that according to the statistics, the Northern Governorate Police Directorate recorded 1579 violations, the Capital Governorate Police Directorate recorded 1166 violations. While, he added, the Muharraq Governorate Police Directorate recorded 958 violations, and 803 violations were registered by the Southern Governorate Police. The Operations Department headed by General Security recorded 167 violations, while the General Administration of Ports Security recorded 62 violations.
He added that the measures taken aim to preserve the safety of society and its members from exposure to infection with the COVID-19. He stressed the importance of the commitment of citizens and residents to the instructions issued by the relevant authorities and the need to achieve social distancing in markets, commercial stores and parks and the obligation not to gather for more than 5 people with the need to adhere to wearing masks in public places.
The Public Security Assistant Chief for Operations and Training Affairs said that besides applying the law to violators of precautionary measures, awareness campaigns were continuing and targeting various segments of society to enhance awareness among citizens and residents of the importance of commitment and support of state efforts to eliminate the virus.
It is noteworthy that the decision of obligating all citizens and residents to wear face masks in public places was effective since April 9th 2020 to limit the spread of COVID-19. The decision came in implementation of the directives and decisions of the Coordination Committee chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, First Deputy Prime Minister.
