Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Bahraini Farmers’ Market, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Abdulkarim, said that the ninth edition of the Market is witnessing a high turnout of visitors from Bahrain and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

He pointed out that the massive turnout confirms the distinguished status of the market, which has evolved into a regional event.

He affirmed the organising committee’s commitment to implementing the directives of the National Medical Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus, as entry is restricted to holders of the green shield in the BeAware app, in addition to the mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing.

He added that the market provides a platform for Bahraini farmers to showcase and market their products in an attractive agricultural incubator and a civilised manner aimed at achieving the national goals of developing the agricultural sector and consolidating the kingdom’s food security.

This year’s Farmers’ Market features several sections for farmers, nurseries and agricultural companies, in addition to a section for productive families, a corner for dates and another for honey.

The ninth edition also features a special exhibition for Bahrain’s agricultural heritage, showcasing agricultural machines that were used in the past for cultivation, plowing, planting and harvesting, in line with the organisers’ keenness to commemorate Bahrain’s deep-rooted agricultural reputation.

A photo gallery related to agriculture was also inaugurated, in appreciation of those who contributed to making Bahrain a green paradise and the country of one million palm trees throughout history.

The organising committee also adopted a number of new activities such as guiding services, and mini-training courses related to agricultural production, modern soilless farming systems, agricultural pest control, and the safe use of pesticides.

Inaugurated on December 25, 2021, the ninth Bahraini Farmers’ Market will continue until March 27. It opens every Saturday from 07:00 to 13:00.
