“More than 7,000 workers were provided with basic food supplies in the past two months,” this was announced by the Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) through its official website and social media accounts. 

The society added that the helped workers, who were reported to have lost their jobs due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, were provided with supplies that were sufficient for a month per person.

The MWPS stated that its plan was to communicate with those who lost their jobs provide them with food for a month. It noted that as the virus spread, it has seen a significant increase in the number of low-income migrant workers seeking support. 

It explained that those workers were not workers only, but they were also domestic workers, workers in restaurant employees, beauty salons, shops, cleaning companies, chefs, flower sales, electricians, and even small business owners and their families, who lost their jobs and income.

The MWPS said that its assistance provided included workers of different nationalities, 90% of which were from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the Philippines. Other nationalities, it added, included Cameroon, Kenya, Ghana, Nepal, Sri Lanka and other Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries.
