In Muharraq, Bahrain's High Criminal Court opened a hearing in the case of a 24-year-old arrested by the police for allegedly concealing drugs.
His arrest came as he dug a hole to bury drugs in the vacant piece of land, which was under surveillance for suspicious activity.
“At the scene, we rushed to apprehend him, where we recovered a bag with narcotics,” the investigating officer testified.
Upon receiving a tip-off that a vacant plot in Muharraq was being used as a drop-off point for narcotics shipments, the location was under surveillance.
According to court records, traffickers disguised drugs as "dead mail" and used erroneous or indecipherable addresses so they could remain untraceable.
As a result of further questioning, the defendant admitted to trafficking both heroin and methamphetamine within the Kingdom.
As part of the court proceedings, an officer from the Anti-Narcotics Department testified that he had observed the suspect engaging in suspicious activities on the vacant plot in Muharraq.
He exhibited suspicious behavior, constantly scanning his surroundings to ensure he remained undetected, and then suddenly sat down and began digging hastily.
During the subsequent interrogation, he confessed to distributing narcotics via the deceptive method of 'dead mail'."
Additionally, the officer said, "we discovered a white bag containing methamphetamine in his possession. As a result of a warrant, we also searched his home, resulting in the discovery of additional contraband.
"From there, we found a white bag containing methamphetamine, as well as another with heroin, concealed within a drawer in his room.
“Other items seized during the search included a plastic spoon, three precision scales, three mobile phones, six SIM cards, and a memory card,” the officer explained.
