A wildfire, uncontrollable amid spring's heat wave conditions, has prompted the evacuation of dozens of residents and resulted in the destruction of at least 10 homes on the northern outskirts of Perth on the west coast, as revealed by authorities on Thursday.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but a number of firefighters sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, according to Darren Klemm, the Commissioner of the Western Australia State Department of Fires and Emergency Services.
The fire ignited on Wednesday afternoon in a pine tree plantation on the northeast periphery of Perth, and overnight winds reaching 60 kilometers (37 miles) per hour intensified its spread, said incident controller Clinton Kuchel.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as reported by the Associated Press.
Power poles were damaged, leaving 544 homes without power on Thursday. Approximately 130 people sought refuge in an evacuation center overnight, according to Western Australia Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti.
Klemm mentioned that the 150 firefighters engaged in battling the blaze anticipate that it will take several days to bring it under control.
