
The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has recently confirmed that it has implemented several preventive and precautionary measures for its academic and administrative staff, with the aim of protecting them from coronavirus (Covid-19) and prevent it from spreading.
The University called upon the staff members to work remotely from their homes starting Sunday, except those who the nature of their duties requires them to be present on campus. This step has been taken in coordination with deans, and heads of colleges and administrative departments.
AGU explained that the implementation of these measures comes in line with the directives of the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to suspend all public and private educational institutions as a precautionary procedure to ensure the safety of students and as part of the efforts dedicated by the Kingdom to prevent the spread of the virus.
The measures stressed on the importance of committing to the rules of prevention and measures of public health, adhering to the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to not travel abroad, and guiding the staff to protect themselves and fellow members of the University, especially in light of the general concern about infection with Covid-19.
The University confirmed that nurses on campus are measuring the temperatures of everyone entering and emphasised on the importance of regular handwashing and use of hand sanitisers before entering, in addition to limiting assemblies of more than 10 individuals, reducing the periods of meetings and not coming to the University in case of contact with individuals who have been diagnosed, quarantined or showed symptoms of fever or cough.
Moreover, a decision has been implemented to suspend the use of biometric attendance systems in the university as an extra precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
