In order to preserve Bahrain’s historical and cultural identity, renovate the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, and develop Muharraq in a way that preserves its storied identity, the Royal Order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was implemented. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy King of Bahrain, visited the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, Pearling Path, and historic and traditional houses in Muharraq today. Bahrain's building and city heritage will be preserved through the Muharraq Development Plan, which was implemented during the visit.
According to HM the King, Muharraq is the "Mother of Cities," an authentic and historic place.
It is the pride of Bahrainis and a source of inspiration for future generations that Muharraq and its people hold a special place in their hearts.
He was informed about the Muharraq Development Plan, which aligns with HM the King's Royal Order, during the visit to the Isa Al Kabeer Palace.
There are five pillars of the development plan: the preservation of Muharraq's historical identity, the provision of housing units that meet Bahraini families' needs, the preservation of heritage buildings, the expansion and diversification of greenery in the governorate, and the establishment of infrastructure services.
A Muharraq Development Plan procedure has been ordered, which includes acquiring, designing, and implementing the project. HRH the Deputy King directed the process to begin immediately.
A project called Pearling Path was also completed under His Royal Highness's direction.
The Deputy King expressed his gratitude to the government for accepting the responsibility of implementing Royal Orders to preserve Bahrain's historical and cultural heritage. As per HM the King's wishes, this will include all the governorates of Bahrain, achieving Bahrainis' aspirations.
An estimated 1.4 million square metres of the area under development in Muharraq will be green spaces, heritage buildings, new and renovated housing units, and multi-story car parks, standard car parks, and walkways.
His Royal Highness was accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Charity Educational Endowment, as well as the Minister of Interior, HE General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and the Deputy Prime Minister, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
