Asian Shares Decline As Bank Of Japan Holds Meeting

On Monday, most Asian shares experienced declines as the Bank of Japan initiated a 2-day meeting, drawing attention for potential indications of a shift in the central bank’s long-standing near-zero interest rate policy. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng decreased by 0.9% to 16,633.98, and the Shanghai Composite index saw a marginal 0.1% decline to 2,938.79. Notably, debt-laden developer Country Garden fell by 2.4%, while China Evergrande and Sino-Ocean Group Holding declined by 1.3% and 2.2%, respectively. In other parts of Asia, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 retreated by 0.3% to 7,420.30, while South Korea’s Kospi showed a modest gain of 0.2% at 2,569.40, and Bangkok’s SET was down by 0.2%.
