A 90th-minute Bruno Fernandes strike gave Manchester United a crucial 1-0 victory over Fulham in Saturday's early Premier League game.

Reuters reported that Fernandes latched onto a loose ball and struck a pinpoint low shot inside the post just as the game was slipping into a stalemate.

With successive 3-0 home defeats, United's worst start since 1962 has piled pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, and victory at Craven Cottage should ease that pressure.

United's victory was welcome, but after another rather shapeless performance under the Dutchman, questions remain about where they are headed.

As a result of a third successive narrow away win in the league, United move up to sixth place with 18 points from 11 games ahead of the rest of the weekend schedule. There were 18 goals attempts, but only two were on target for Fulham, which is down in 14th with 12 points.

Former Manchester United title winners Gary Neville and Roy Keane have both suggested Fernandes should lose the armband after some petulant displays in recent weeks.
