A team of engineers at Bahrain International Circuit have designed a new breathing aid for non-ICU coronavirus.

The device, created in cooperation with the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), will facilitate the recovery of non-critical cases.

There are two breathing aid designs, both of which have received regulatory approval. The first 100 devices are already in production.

Blueprint designs for the devices will be made freely available to organisations around the world who are developing similar solutions.

Fayez Ramzy Fayez, Chief Operating Officer at the BIC, said, “At a time of global crisis, we have been seeking ways in which the BIC can support the fight against COVID-19. Our engineers have met that challenge by designing a ventilator system specifically to support those suffering from COVID-19.

“As this is a global effort, we are happy to make these designs available to other organisations around the world who are seeking to develop similar solutions.”

The first machine was created by design team lead and BIC mechanical engineer, Kamel Al-Taan, while Tareq AlTajer led the creation of the second machine.
