The historic ties bonding Bahrain and Japan have been highlighted in the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Manama (RCM).
The meeting hosted the Japanese Ambassador to Bahrain Hideki Ito who shared information on the deep-rooted relations between Japan and Bahrain.
RCM President Khalid Mukhtar, incoming President Marjan Madara and club members interactively joined the ambassador in the enriching conversation about the history of Bahraini-Japanese relations.
The meeting, "Japan-Bahrain Relations through the Eyes of the Japanese Ambassador", consisted of a roundup of friendship and strong cooperation between the two countries on various levels, including diplomatic ties and industrial, commercial and cultural cooperation.
The ambassador stressed that relations between Bahrain and Japan date back to the third decade of the 20th century and spoke about the various joint projects accomplished in petrochemicals, aluminum, gas, telecommunications and education.
Efforts are continuously exerted from both sides to consolidate and expand cooperation linking both nations with the aim of serving shared interests and strengthening longstanding relations, adding that visits of official delegations representing various sectors from both sides are periodically organized, he added.
"Both our nations continue to strive to achieve more joint accomplishments in the prosperous era of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and HM Emperor Naruhito," the ambassador said.
Founded in 1965, RCM consists of 58 members who have been actively participating and organizing community projects for the past five decades, with the aim of contributing towards societal needs.
The club forms part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization with over 1.2 million members.
