Bahrain last night expressed “deep regret regarding the horrific explosion” in Lebanon after two massive explosions in Beirut’s port on Tuesday that injured thousands. The Foreign Ministry stressed Bahrain’s solidarity with the brotherly people of Lebanon during these terrible times.
The explosion resulted in the death and injury of numerous civilians and causing severe material damage to the outskirts of Beirut. Numerous videos were circulated on social media of Lebanon's capital showing the moment the explosion erupted at the Port of Beirut area. Several community organisations and individuals in Bahrain took to social media expressing concerns on the tragedy.
Lebanon and Bahrain Researcher at Human Rights Watch Aya Majzoub stated, “Bleak morning in Lebanon. More than 100 people are still missing after the Beirut Blast. Over 100 dead and 4,000 injured. People have lost everything, the city is destroyed. How do we begin to deal with this national trauma and rebuild? So much sadness all around”.
“We offer our condolences to the victims of the Beirut explosion and their families. We pray for healing for the injured, and that Beirut and Lebanon emerge better and stronger” stated the American Friends of the Jewish Community of Bahrain.
World leaders joined in solidarity with Lebanon.
In a press statement, United States Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo stated “I’d like to extend my deepest condolences to all those affected by the massive explosion at the port of Beirut. We are closely monitoring and stand ready to assist the people of Lebanon as they recover from this tragedy.”
“Our team in Beirut has reported to me the extensive damage to a city and a people that I hold dear, an additional challenge in a time of already deep crisis. We understand that the Government of Lebanon continues to investigate its cause and look forward to the outcome of those efforts” he added.
