With the rising number of Covid-19 cases, India’s largest school board has decided not to conduct the pending examinations for class 10 and 12 scheduled to be held between July 01 to 15. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) told the decision to the Supreme court on Thursday.
The Supreme Court on Friday permitted the Centre and CBSE to cancel the remaining examinations due to the spike of Covid-19 cases. The board stated that the exams can be conducted for class 12 students who opt for it as soon as conditions are conducive. The announcement prompted plenty of reactions on social media.
Assessment of the performance of students in the cancelled examination will be done based on the assessment scheme as suggested by a competent committee of the CBSE for declaration of results for both class 10 and 12.
The Board has divided candidates into three categories, based on the number of papers they have appeared for.
According to Times of India, “For students who have appeared in the examinations in more than three subjects, the average of marks obtained in the best three will be awarded in subjects whose examinations have not been conducted. For students who have appeared in only three subjects, the average of marks obtained in the best two performing subjects will be considered,” CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.
For candidates in Class 10, no further examination will be conducted and the result declared by CBSE based on the assessment scheme will be treated as final. Results will be announced on July 15th so that students can apply for admission for higher education.
As soon as the decision was declared twitter saw #CBSE as a dominated trend while others took to social media with a variety of memes.
