Late on Monday, Storm Lidia intensified into a hurricane as it neared west-central Mexico, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. The hurricane poses a significant threat with dangerous winds and heavy rains capable of causing widespread flooding along the Pacific coast.

The National Hurricane Center cautioned that hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall are expected to impact Mexico starting on Tuesday, as reported by Reuters.

As of the latest bulletin, Lidia was located approximately 365 miles (587 km) away from the popular resort city of Puerto Vallarta. It was moving east-northeast at a speed of 10 miles per hour (16 kph) and had sustained winds reaching up to 75 mph (120 kph).

The NHC issued warnings of hurricane conditions from southern Jalisco state to the Islas Marias off the Nayarit coast, with tropical storm conditions extending north to Mazatlan and south to Manzanillo.

The hurricane is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall of up to 12 inches (30.5 cm) through Wednesday across Nayarit, Jalisco, and southern Sinaloa, posing a risk of flash floods and urban flooding. Additionally, a storm surge may result in "significant coastal flooding" in the area where Lidia makes landfall.

Residents are strongly advised to complete their preparations to safeguard themselves and their property, especially as the winds become increasingly perilous. The Baja California peninsula is also expected to experience strong swells.

Meanwhile, Storm Max, which made landfall in the southern state of Guerrero on Monday, is weakening as it moves inland. Local media reports indicate that torrential rainfall led to road flooding, with vehicles submerged in mud and carried away by strong currents.

The NHC cautioned that Max could still bring strong winds to the southern coastline on Monday night and may continue to cause flash flooding and mudslides in Guerrero and neighboring Michoacan states.
