A voluntary group is working around the clock to reach out to individuals who are in need of food. The group known as ‘Sandigan Bahrain’ representing the Filipino community have been distributing food kits with the help of generous donors.

The Filipino voluntary group have been reaching out to Filipino domestic workers and have helped over 120 people. Last week, Sandigan Bahrain distributed food kits to over 35 workers in Bahrain.

Speaking to Albilad “What we have observed lately is that people are running out of food. We supply food kits but they will not be sufficient for a longer period. We have spoken to several Filipinos about their situation and majority are concerned about affording food supplies due to lack of paychecks  among other concerns,” said Sandigan Bahrain member Suzanne.

“Thanks to the people who have generously donated we have been able to help out as much as we can. We are working on distributing the second batch of food supplies this week. We still need more kits and it is our hope people will come forward to join us in helping people in dire need” she added.

Food kits consisting of rice, sugar, noodles, macaroni, eggs and mangoes have been provided for people living in Hamad Town, Budaiya, Hoora, Ras Rumman, Adliya, Zinj and Salmabad.

Meanwhile, expat communities are appealing the government to provide leniency and flexibilities amidst the prevailing coronavirus outbreak in Bahrain.

While acknowledging the efforts that Bahrain has been taking during the pandemic, representatives of various expat communities are voicing their concerns regarding loan instalments, salary cutbacks, food relief efforts, rent and telecommunication services.
