Ciro Immobile sealed a 1-0 victory for Lazio against Fiorentina with an injury-time penalty, dashing the visitors' hopes of regaining a top-four spot in Serie A on Monday.
Immobile converted the penalty in stoppage time, as Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic was penalized for a handball.
Scoring opportunities were scarce for both sides, but Fiorentina came close to taking an early lead. Lucas Beltran had a goal disallowed after a video review and later hit the post with a header.
Fiorentina, who began the day in fifth place, dropped to sixth after Atalanta defeated Empoli 3-0.
Gianluca Scamacca was the standout player for Atalanta, scoring twice and assisting in another goal.
Scamacca opened the scoring just five minutes into the match with a clever backheel through the legs of the goalkeeper, following a pass from Ademola Lookman.
Later, the former West Ham player turned provider, assisting Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in doubling Atalanta's lead with a powerful shot.
Scamacca completed his excellent performance by adding a third goal six minutes into the second half.
Empoli remained in the third-to-last position in the league standings
