The National Space Science Authority (NSSA) was invited to participate in the United Nations/World Health Organization International Conference on Space and Global Health.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, the CEO of NSSA, expressed that the conference aimed to discover innovative solutions to the challenges confronting the healthcare sector by harnessing space technologies and other advanced innovations. He further noted that attendees shared successful experiences in utilizing space technologies and applications to support various healthcare initiatives.
These technologies encompassed the digitization of information through satellite data and its complement with ground data from diverse sources. This integration yielded highly accurate information, facilitating swift and secure decision-making for policymakers.
Roya Bubshait, who heads the Satellite Image and Data Analysis Laboratory at NSSA, mentioned that the delegation gained insights into how other countries have leveraged space and its technologies to develop applications that bolster the healthcare sector. She also mentioned that the delegation collected numerous ideas that can be implemented in Bahrain. These ideas will be studied in preparation for a meeting with relevant stakeholders in the Ministry of Health to explore ways of providing the necessary ground data to initiate a pilot project. This project aims to enhance the services offered by the healthcare sector and provide previously unavailable qualitative data.
