Announcing his running mate for next year's elections, Indonesian defence minister and presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto announced the eldest son of incumbent leader Joko Widodo.
Because of Jokowi's huge popularity, Gibran Rakabuming Raka's selection could boost Prabowo's campaign.
At a press conference after a party meeting, Prabowo said he and his coalition partners had agreed to nominate him as president and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as vice president.
Nearly 205 million of Indonesia's more than 270 million voters will be eligible to vote in the world's third-largest democracy on Feb. 14.
