The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain organized a ceremony for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS) and Rotary Club of Manama. The purpose of this collaboration is to strengthen community partnerships and relaunch the Diabetes Mobile Unit (DMU).

Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, was in attendance. The MoU was signed by Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Renuka Nambiar Ravindran (President of Rotary Club of Manama), and Professor Sameer Otoom (President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain).

Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah expressed gratitude to Rotary Club of Manama and RCSI, as well as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Bahrain Diabetes Society, for their humanitarian efforts in addressing healthcare challenges in Bahrain. The organizations will work together on the DMU program, developing educational materials, coordinating school visits, and training volunteers to provide diabetes education and support to children and their families in Bahrain.

Professor Otoom affirmed RCSI Medical University of Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its partnership with Bahrain Diabetes Society and Rotary Club of Manama to increase diabetes awareness and prevention among children. He extended thanks to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education for their support. The Diabetes Mobile Unit, established in 2012, engages with primary schools to educate third and fourth-grade students about diabetes, healthy eating, and the importance of an active lifestyle through interactive games and activities. To date, the Mobile Diabetes Unit has educated over 5,400 children in Bahrain.
