A low-income worker who was sick and undergoing treatment in Bahrain has finally returned to India thanks to World NRI Council and the Indian Embassy. Indian National Subhas Mandal was admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) in October of last year and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome after complaining of weakness in his four limbs.

“My son is admitted to the hospital but even after receiving continuous medications is still very critical. For better treatment and a safe retune home, we request the consular Embassy of India to make the necessary arrangement,” appealed Mandal’s father Gorachand Mandal to officials.The 24-year-old was repatriated to Bhubaneswar yesterday after his family appealed to officials when doctors advised further treatment.

“Subhas comes from a poor family background and had arrived in Bahrain to earn a living being the breadwinner of the family. Five months after his arrival, he was diagnosed with this illness. He travelled yesterday on an Air India flight to Bhubaneswar where he was received by his brother Bishnupada Mandal and a medical team. He was taken in an ambulance to the M R Bangur Hospital were he will be receiving further treatment,” said  World NRI Council Director for Humanitarian Aid GCC Region Sudheer Thirunilath.

Mr Sudheer worked with officials in Bahrain and India to repatriate the young lad.  The World NRI Council has helped scores of expatriates reunite with their families back home after being stranded in Bahrain or falling ill unable to return home.

Sudheer Thirunilath thanked the SMC medical team, Indian Embassy charge d'affaires Norbu Negi, second secretary PK Chowdhury, Attache (Consular) Priyanka Tyagi, Priya, Labor Section Murali.

He reiterated his gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs, India, ICRF, HOPE team and BKSF volunteers for their support and Subhas’ company for providing the ticket.
