In response to growing concerns about the spread of lumpy skin disease among cattle, agricultural authorities in South Korea have initiated a nationwide pest control campaign against blood-feeding insects. This effort, which is scheduled to continue until November 10, comes in the wake of suspicions that mosquitoes or other insects transported by air currents or ships may have played a role in South Korea's first-ever outbreak of this viral infection on October 20, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

As of now, South Korea has confirmed 74 cases of the disease, including four new cases reported on Wednesday, with authorities also investigating one suspected case. Additionally, the government has set a goal to complete its vaccination program by November 10, and it typically takes around three weeks for cattle to develop antibodies.

Lumpy skin disease, which is not transmissible to humans, is highly contagious among cattle, resulting in skin lesions, fever, loss of appetite, reduced milk production, and even death
