A Saudi orthopedic team at King Khalid Hospital and Prince Sultan Centre for Health Care in Al Kharj has achieved a successful outcome by preserving the severely injured hand of a patient, thus avoiding the need for amputation.
The patient, a 30-year-old individual, sustained a serious workplace injury when falling from a height of three meters onto iron bars. The Saudi Ministry of Health reported that the patient was admitted to the hospital's emergency department on September 18th.
Upon admission, the patient presented with a laceration on the right forearm and injuries to the hand's extremities and extensor tendons. Following the necessary medical assessments, the patient was promptly transferred to the operating room for surgery, during which the surgical team explored blood vessels and nerves, and repaired the severed tendons and muscles.
The operation, lasting over two hours, was ultimately deemed a success, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
