Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President-Designate of COP28, has expressed his approval of the agreement reached during the Fifth Meeting of the Transitional Committee in Abu Dhabi over the weekend.

The Committee has reached a consensus on a proposed strategy for making the Loss and Damage Fund operational and establishing funding arrangements for loss and damage. This proposal will be reviewed and, it is hoped, adopted by the 198 parties at COP28, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber stated the following: "I welcome the agreement reached today in Abu Dhabi by the Transitional Committee. This clear and robust recommendation for operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund and defining funding arrangements paves the way for approval at COP28. The adoption of this recommended approach at COP28 is crucial for the billions of individuals, their lives, and their livelihoods who are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
