The UAE and Kazakhstan have inked an agreement signifying their commitment to collaborate on the development of Kazakhstan's renewable energy sector. This includes the joint undertaking of a large-scale wind power project boasting a 1 gigawatt capacity. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan presided over the agreement signing between the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
The signing ceremony occurred during COP28 in Dubai, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM). Additionally, a Joint Development Agreement was executed involving Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), a prominent clean energy entity in the UAE, which will lead the project. Other signatories include W Solar, Qazaq Green Power QGP (a company within the Samruk-Kazyna Group), and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund. The collaboration aims to develop and implement a 1-gigawatt wind project.
This initiative is poised to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations while expediting Kazakhstan's transition to renewable energy. The project aligns with Kazakhstan's aspirations to elevate its renewable capacity to 15 percent of its energy supply by the year 2030.
