
A tsunami advisory issued by Japan for two island areas south of Tokyo was lifted for a wide stretch of coastal regions on Monday.
At 0300 GMT Monday, the advisory was lifted for islands up to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) south of the nation's capital. There have been no reports of significant damage, according to the media.
There was an earthquake near Torishima Island at 5:25 a.m. Japan Meteorological Agency reports the quake occurred near Torishima Island. There was a 4.9-magnitude earthquake in the area, according to the USGS.
Reuters reported the advisory was in effect as far southwest as the Amami Islands, about 1,500 kilometers from Tokyo, and in eastern Chiba prefecture near the capital.
National broadcaster NHK reported waves as high as 60 centimetres (24 inches) in some island areas.
An earthquake-triggered tsunami advisory was issued Thursday near the Izu Islands, about 100 kilometers south of Tokyo.
